About 'Anthem Australia'

Beneath the radiant Southern Cross we'll toil with hearts and hands to leave our children's children a whole and sacred land'

    Replaces

Beneath the radiant Southern Cross we'll toil with hearts and hands to make this Commonwealth of ours renowned of all the lands'

As there are many societies in the Southern Hemisphere who associate themselves with the Southern Cross 'the' is more accurate and appropriate than 'our'.

The meaning of the word 'renown' is "The quality of being widely honoured and acclaimed; fame." Whilst there is nothing wrong with being renowned, to aim to make Australia 'renowned of all the lands' means we have to put ourselves above all other countries. Australia is equal with all other countries. We stand shoulder to shoulder with others not above them.

It is a more noble and mature aim to leave our descendants a better place than what we found it. We are the custodians of this country for future generations. It is not ours to squander at the expense of those yet to be born.
